SQUIRRELS KG1 – TKA
4-year-old children or kindergarten 1 (TKA) in a formal
school with no English background.
Speech
The children are trained to speak sentences for practical situations
with methods that are very engaging and motivating. Lots of
role-plays, songs, and games accelerate learning, and make every
session enjoyable. The children are encouraged to speak English
among themselves at all times.
Reading
Squirrels learn to read words. Letters are taught later. These words
are presented with flashcards. Lots of games motivate the children
to read. This teaching method has proven to be the most suitable for
young children and very efficient indeed.
Books: English Readers 1 & 2 + Blank Reader 1 + Storybooks: Can you
see me? + Rhino’s bath for the whole year.
Writing
Squirrels practice writing by tracing letters, words and short
phrases over dots. Their books become generally colorful and very
beautiful.
Books: Squirrel Workbook 1 & 2. + I can write my ABC for the whole
year.
Math
Rainbow uses math as a subject to teach English. The children learn
counting in English. They also learn basic concepts of
‘classification’ (big – small; tall – short; etc.) directly in
English.
Books: Squirrel math 1 & 2 for the whole year.
General knowledge
General knowledge is brought in to the children by using flashcards
or storybooks. We have a collection of flashcards which covers lots
of topics, such as plants, animals, profession, sports, etc.
Teachers show these colorful flashcards with some short additional
information.
Computers
Rainbow also teaches English with computers (1 child – 1 computer).
The programs are carefully selected to fit the child’s level.
Squirrels learn lots of vocabularies through computer games.
Evaluation
The evaluation helps the teacher to understand the strength and
weaknesses of her pupils as well as her own. The teacher makes her
teaching plan for the following period according to the results of
the evaluation. The evaluation covers the material that is taught
within the last three months. The parents get a report-book which
states the marks and teachers’ observations about the child. The
marks on the report-books are taken from daily observation, speech
and written material.
RABBITS & DRAGON RABBITS
KG2 – TKB
Rabbits: 5 years old. English second year. (TKB)
Dragon Rabbits: 5 years old. Never learned English before. (TKB)
Speech
The children already speak simple English among each other in the
classroom. It is a must for them to use 100% English anywhere in the
school. The teaching system continues creating happy situations to
encourage them to speak.
Reading
Rabbit children continue learning reading words and phrases.
Letters are also taught. Spelling is taught through songs.
Books: English Readers 3 and 4 + Blank Reader 2 + Story books:
Teddy’s balloon + My Daddy is fun + The busy giant for the whole
year.
Readers 1 & 2 only for Dragon Rabbits for the whole year.
Writing
Rabbit children write longer words and sentences in their
workbooks. Words they write are the same with the ones they practice
in speech. Writing is still done by tracing dotted letters.
Books: Rabbit Workbook 1 & 2 for the whole year.
Math
Rabbits also learn English by doing math. Simple KG2 (TKB)
arithmetic as well as simple classification concepts are taught
directly in English.
Books: Rabbit math 1 and 2 for the whole year—for Rabbits only.
Squirrel’s math 1 & 2 for the whole year—for Dragon Rabbits.
General knowledge
Children are still given general knowledge by means of colorful
flashcards. These flashcards cover many topics, such as vehicles,
sickness, safety, etc. Teachers flash these flashcards while giving
some simple information to let the children know more.
Computers
The Rabbit computer programs are designed to teach reading and
syntax with a lot of fun. New vocabularies are also introduced
through games. The computer session is always an exciting time.
Evaluation
The evaluation helps the teacher to understand the strength and
weaknesses of her pupils as well as her own. The teacher makes her
teaching plan for the following period according to the results of
the evaluation. The evaluation covers the material that is taught
within the last three months. Parents get report-books which state
the marks and teachers’ observations about the child. The marks on
the report-books are taken from the daily observation, speech and
written material.
KOALAS & DRAGON KOALAS
Primary 1 – SD 1
Koalas: 6 years old. English third year. Primary 1(SD1).
Dragon Koalas: 6 years old. No English background. Primary 1 (SD1).
Most new students who come at that age have learnt some English in
other schools but their level is generally so low and so inadequate
in practical life that they have to start from level one. The
children go through the first levels very fast getting the necessary
skill they need to start speaking.
Speech
English is compulsory anywhere in the school. Key-sentences are
introduced using dramas, songs, jokes, etc. The teachers create
happy situations as incentive for the children to speak.
Reading
Koala children are able to read and make longer sentences. The
children enjoy lots of little storybooks and English folk tales such
as Puss in Boots and Lost in the Snow.
Books: Koalas: Reader Dragon 3 + Puss in boots + Lost in snow + A
packet of seeds + Where is my teddy? + My dream — for the whole
year.
Dragon Koalas: Reader Dragon 2 & 3 + A packet of seeds + Where is my
Teddy? + My dream — for the whole year.
Writing
Koala children write the sentences they compose. A book guides them
for more.
Books: Smurf Workbook 1 & 2 for the whole year.
Math & general knowledge
Rainbow teaches English through math and general knowledge. The math
is easy enough to stimulate the child’s interest. General knowledge
is still introduced with flashcards and used as themes of
discussion.
Books: Koala math 1 & 2 for the whole year.
Computers
The Koala children enjoy a thrilling computer adventure that
compels them to finish it by accomplishing lots of exercises.
Reading and vocabulary improve a lot along the play.
Grammar
Grammar is introduced at this level. We do not teach grammar in a
traditional way (teacher explains and then students do exercises).
Rainbow teachers use interactive ways to teach grammar. Grammar at
Rainbow school is never boring.
Books: Koala grammar 1 & 2 for the whole year.
The
marks on the report-books are taken from the daily observation,
speech and written material.
